Look closely at the rear top bow stowage bracket in the original pics. It looks like a regular 2A bracket, yet the the first 200 or so 2As off the assembly line had a rear bracket with extra material and two holes in it like the one in this pic.

If it was a new GPW engine that was installed later as a replacement for the original Willys engine serial number CJ2A-34630, then perhaps the installer stamped the GPW engine A 34630 to keep the numerical part of the original CJ2A engine serial number in the jeep.

When you’re getting ready to slide the engine into place, jack one rear wheel just barely off the floor. Put the transfer case in 2-high and the transmissions in third. If the transmission input shaft splines don’t line up with the clutch disc splines, turning that back wheel will turn the shaft. BW.

This is basicly a light wheel bearing grease. This has been discussed a few times in the past and if you look up "knuckle pudding" in a search you will find more info. Knuckle pudding is mixing wheel bearing grease with gearlube to get a "flowable type heavy lub that will get up to the king ...

The easiest way i have found to do this is to jack up a rear wheel and disconnect the brake cable and return spring. Then you can move the actuating lever by hand, make your adjustment and roll the tire to see if the brake is holding. Saves a lot of climbing in crawling under and yanking on the cane. 1947 CJ2A 90419.

I have a noise in the transmission when it is in neutral and the engine is running with the clutch pedal out. I've already rebuilt a D30 narrow track with a Detroit and disc brake to swap in the front. With standard 29" tall tires the pre 1963 CJ's will optimally cruise at 35 MPH. Not nearly as efficient but I will recommend an absolute maximum sustained RPM of 3100. This is the diagram from cj-2a.com. I've changed it to my understanding but I'm sure there are some holes in it. Let me know what you think. Here's my alterations: '49 CJ2A in fewer pieces than before. I'm trying to decide what to do for lockers in my trail jeep project. My current drivetrain is a 225 dauntless/T18/D18 with 3.73 dana 44 rear and 3.73 dana 27 front.
